Mobile, AL is claiming to be the birthplace of Mardi Gras. This is a lie. The first Mardi Gras celebration held by dIberville and Bienville was held March 3, 1699 at Point du Mardi Gras, Louisiana at the mouth of the Mississippi River south of modern day New Orleans. Mobile, Alabama was discovered in 1702. (3 years later). There is no way for the first Mardi Gras to have been celebrated in Mobile. The only thing Mobile is first at is crime.
