Gentlemen:
For several weeks/months we have noticed between several of the vignettes on " Morning Edition" that your engineer riding the board turns up the gain, presumably to get listeners' attention. Inasmuch as it annoys UOM's audience and generates ill-will, we wonder why he/she persists in the practice. Years ago (1960s) the FCC frowned on such practices. Does it now turn its head--and ears--the other way?
Doubtless the individual responsible for this annoying attention-grabber thinks it will wake up the station's listeners to what follows from your studio--indeed, maybe even bring in a few more dollars--but since it prompts us to turn down the dbs, the chances are slim for increased station support.
May I ask that the Station Manager talk w/ local engineers and then implement a policy of self-control and improving public relations, maintaining higher professional standards than we have experienced heretofore. To violate the sensitivities of listeners for these or similar reasons strikes one as a trifle sophomoric.
