Hello,
I am sending this email to multiple radio stations throughout the area. There is a high likelihood that many traditional high school graduations will be canceled due to the COVID-19 "stay at home orders" and social distancing rules. There are some creative ideas being discussed as to how to have a HS graduation ceremony without gathering people together. One of the ideas is to have graduates and their immediate families drive through the parking lot of the high school to be recognized and conduct the ceremony while staying in their vehicles. They would then do a parade procession through town with others parked in their vehicles along the route to show appreciation and congratulate the Class of 2020. I am hopeful that there may be an area radio station interested in working with a given High School and setting up something to broadcast the graduation over a radio station. There would likely be a few short speeches from the Principal, Superintendent, Selected class speaker, and Selected Senior Student speaker, play a couple songs, and announce the graduating Seniors. Most things can potentially be pre recorded. The entire thing would be an hour or less. I realize that the go-to media is video streaming, but I believe in this situation radio stations can do a better job of reaching more people. This would be a reliable way to share the Graduation program with everyone in a given Community while they are in their vehicles or at home. The participants would not have to rely on data, cell coverage, wifi, or quality of their streaming device. Most everyone has access to a radio. This could also be a great way for your radio station to introduce yourself to a new area, potentially secure some new advertising, and boost your PR with the surrounding communities during this Pandemic. I believe that if your radio station has progressive and supportive ownership and management, they will see this as an opportunity to support surrounding communities and benefit your station.
Thank you for considering this suggestion. I appreciate your time and for all the support you give our Wisconsin communities during this challenging time.
Take care and please respond if you feel this is potentially something you may be interested in.
