Finally a station playing classic rock. No BS, no talk radio like WDVE has turned into be. Always a fresh batch of songs unlike WDVE playing the same songs over and over again.
Thanks...KVE
By: Joe N on January 30, 2011
I found this station by accident one morning on my clock radio here in the South Hills. They are quite a refreshing change of pace to traditional Pittsburgh Classic Rock. I swear every time I tune in to WDVE, they are playing an AC/DC song! They play more of that band than the Stones,Beatles, and Dylan combined. I was listening to the station primarily for Steeler coverage, but I am fed up with their minuscule playlist and the constant pimping of product done on their shows.(Randy of the Morning Show must say Bud Light after every breath)So I am sticking with my new station were I can hear variety like early 70's DVE/YDD.One request: play some Smiths,or Morrissey - they Rawk!

Dear WKVE,
Your radio station is a very welcomed oasis of quality music amidst a sea a boring/ same old - same old FM rock stations around the Pittsburgh area. I discovered the station about 6 months ago in my commute between Latrobe and Morgantown WV.
Your music selection is very tasteful; combining newer tunes with much more quality classic rock tunes (inclusive of truly 'deep tracks' or songs from the 'archives'. And the station's sound quality is exceptional.
Awesome job all around!!! Please keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Cuda, seasoned Rocker musician
Lawrence.Cuda@comcast.net
Latrobe, PA
PS: If you can please play some Spirit, Mahavishnu Orchestra (I.E. Birds of Fire), King Crimson.
Peace

I heard about 103.1 and when I turned it on for the first time, I heard "Let Me Go" by the Stones from their underrated Emotional Rescue album. I was appalled. It's not even a single! This station plays great deep cuts and less popular singles from a wide range of bands and bands' historys. I also heard "Happy" from Exile on Main St, now that's good music. Thanks!! -Adam, 16
By: Adam S on March 24, 2011
I discovered WKVE by surfing. A thowback to the old WYDD and WZUM days from the 1970's. This is a great classic rock station!
By: Bob Brown on March 27, 2011
Rock on man! Love this station. What a welcome change to the others. Feels like old times again.
By: Dar on April 6, 2011
This station is what WDVE used to be back in the 80's. 103.1 is the only station I listen to for the deep tracks and songs no one else would ever play. I heard a song I haven't heard in years on your station. PLEASE STAY ON THE AIR!!
By: Jarrod on April 10, 2011
there is a heaven,GREAT MUSIC NO TALK!!this station is to good to be true,a throw back to YDD and early dve thanks !!!!
By: fred on April 12, 2011
Like some others mentioned--found this gem purely by accident. Have been listening every day since. KVE plays some serious classic deep cuts along with rock standards. i had given up completely on FM radio, same old worn out songs and stupid fake laughs annoy me to no end. KVE has given me new faith in ROCK N' ROLL RADIO-- the only bummer is that i live in washington county and work in cranberry township so i usually lose the signal. ROCK ON KVE!!! you have a new fan and i'm trying to spread the word
By: Ralph on May 10, 2011
You rock! Deep cuts no repeats no bs. Made painting the bedroom like a party. Thanks kve.
By: mel on June 5, 2011
great station! saw a billboard on rte 30 announcing your station otherwise might not have found you. advertise it and they will come!!!
By: sandy on June 10, 2011
Getting into the car this morning, the first thing I did was to put on KVE and what were my ears blessed to hear? U2's "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses"? I mean, who plays that??? What a treat!!!! I can always count on KVE to play the rare, the obscure & the B sides, music for us connoisseurs who appreciate the more unique and sometimes edgy and finely-aged songs that you wont find anywhere else on Pittsburgh radio. KVE, I applaud you!!!!
By: Twin Lynn from Pitcairn on July 13, 2011
Deep cuts galore!!! Best rock station I've heard in ages. Maybe forever. However, I do have one complaint. Are there no other Foo Fighter deep cuts besides "These Days"? I hear it every day - sometimes more than once a day. I am in my 50's and many of your songs take me back to events and places I haven't thought about for 30 years. Thanks.
By: Andy on July 25, 2011
Just found your station yesterday, turned you on this morning to hear you play Trampoline by The Clarks!!!! I never hear that on DVE. I LOVE that your station is not the same-old-same-old. You're my new favorite. You guys get it!!! Thanx!
By: DeeDee on July 26, 2011
just found this this morning! im glad cause im tired of dve for the lase 30 years
By: brian on August 5, 2011
Someone told me about your station. I turned it on and was shocked how great it was. Deep cuts for a guy my age who was at Woodstock. Came home from work, and the first three songs were amazing. Now my wife won't listen to that other station anymore. Reminds me of the first FM station in Pittsburgh years ago with my reverb in my car....
By: Rich Pastore on August 12, 2011
Hey guys! I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the song that was on at 525am on 9-13. Thanks!
By: kid on September 14, 2011
We LOVE this station. Thanks so much for finally giving us MUSIC on the radio, we are sick of all the repeat music, comercials and DJ's who like to hear themselves talk. Sometimes we wish we could hear the name of the song but guess what, my husband can usually detect the band so we can find it on google. We were suprised by One Last Kiss by the J. Giels band fantastic song. Thanks we are sorely disappointed when the signal fades out. Keep up the great work.
By: Hey Moe on October 10, 2011
Love this station, found it by accident when switching from KDKA am to fm. I appreciate the variety of music played and best of all it reminds me of the first fm stations such as WZUM and WYDD.
By: Kate on October 10, 2011
Great rock station! Always playing good music like Wdve used to. Signals not the greatest but im hooked and will put up with it. Keep up the great format, this is music !!!

Only 19 but I think this music is what "good" music is. This is legit music, that touches the soul. It's alot better than today's thats for sure.
By: Zach on November 1, 2011
Great music mix ! - Reprises the golden age of FM rock radio (late 60s to mid 70s). And no yakking is truly a blessing. How about a web site with the play lists ?
By: RAM on November 6, 2011

I'm on the road hours a day doin' my job. What a breath o' fresh air this station provides. I found it by accident, and now it's no accident that I'm a regular visitor. I remember when FM first came out... nothin' but music.. and classic rock that no other station plays anymore... AWESOME! ROCK ON!
By: Keith on November 8, 2011
great station keep up the good work thanks
By: tim reffert on November 19, 2011
I found your station by accident, I can't stand DVE any longer. This a great station! Thanks!
By: John J on November 23, 2011
Love you guys! Remind me of the deep cut station I used to have on xm radio.
By: Wayne on November 24, 2011
This station and format are a great alternative. I cannot pick this up if I go much farther north but at home and for most of my driving it comes in clear. Keep it up!
By: Craig on December 3, 2011
Discovered this station by accident and really like it. The reception in Squirrel Hill/ Pittsburgh if "iffy" and I hope that can improve! Thanks!
By: Rachel on December 8, 2011
I was channel surfing last year, when I found your station. I love the music-I hope your signal gets stronger. I lose reception around different parts of pittsburgh, also please add playlist. There is a song that you have played a couple of times and I forget the group who plays it.
By: Janie on January 6, 2012
Keep up the good work - You guys are doing a great job going deeper with the established artists - now go a little broader! Need more Alice, Thin Lizzy, Dio-era Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Blue Oyster Cult, Van Morrison! More new rock (and Not Nickelback S#%!) - Black Keys, Decemberists, Clutch!
And thanks for not putting a bunch of annoying "on-air personalities" on!
By: Gar on January 10, 2012
Love your station. On my home, I heard Uriah Heep-Traveller In Time, Deep Purple - Rat Bat Blue, Robin Trower - Little Bit Of Sympathy, etc. FANTASTIC! I like how you guys also mix in some newer stuff, (Foo Fighters, etc.). How about some Black Country Communion. Best new band in a long time that has a classic rock sound. I can't understand why they don't get any airplay.
By: Frank on January 12, 2012
Found this station while flipping through. An eclectic collection of classic rock spanning 60s-90s. No more of the same recycled AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd (love them but they have so many great songs, only a few of which are played to death!). I'm actually hearing some powerful, life altering songs I've never heard before: Big Head Todd and the Monster's--Bittersweet; Focus' (from effin' FRANCE of all places)-- Hocus Pocus. To name a couple. I really love this station. Keep it coming!
By: Christina Deems on January 25, 2012
YES...BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION...needs to be played! And a lot of Joe Bonamassa along with the SRV you play.
Keep it comin'!
By: Troy on January 27, 2012
Well with jimmy kren gone the only good thing on dve is scott paulsen. But TVE is pulling a ton of listeners to their station instead of crap from randy and the morning show.Michael J. Danniels and crew are doing such a good job.
By: mike from herminie on February 3, 2012
Love, love, LOVE this station... Discovered it in 2010 when I was working in Uniontown and have never looked back!! I tell EVERYONE I know - "You want to hear what DVE USED to sound like? Tune in to this station"! I love Dennis in the mornings as well. Please keep up the AWESOME work - I would love to see some sort of web page or FB page!
By: Jennie on February 3, 2012
I have a job where I can listen to FM radio from 4PM to Midnight; I had been out of the USA in the military for the past 26 years; I had heard about my favorite stations of the 70's and 80's changing to the bad.....and then, I happened upon your signal...absolutely fantastic in every way; I am 55 years old, and the cuts you play are a trip back through the time tunnel of a great life...and some new material that it superb. I would like to say a "play list" or something, so I can learn who is playing some of this wonderful songs....Thanks for replacing WDVE in my life and letting me grow older gracefully, with all the music I need and want.
By: Curt Huffman on February 10, 2012
Great Tunes, my new pgh fav. I will have to check into iheart radio for some traveling music!
By: East Boro's Radioman on February 21, 2012
My wife turned me on to the station about one year ago and is pretty much the only one I listen to while in my vehicle. I agree with the others, like hearing more tunes not want to be comedians talking too much. Keep it up with KWS, Bad Co, J Geils,BHTM, Tom Petty and others. Thanks
By: Jim on February 27, 2012

I too found this station by accident cleaning the car one day. I thought I was listening to DVE but I quickly noticed the wider variety of rock music from new to old with hardy any commercials. Actually, I don't remember any commericals. I love this station and I'm telling everyone. Such a great selection of music. Keep broadcasting and don't change your line up style. This station is awesome for sure!
By: Jon S. on March 11, 2012
i love this station! only one thing, i do like hearing jocks with insightful info on the music and artist being played i know people don't like talk, but i'm talking about just a little info here not a 4 hour morning talk show like dve with two tunes an hour! no just a litle dj info like wydd back in the day! great playlist! bob keep up the great work! and just think about what i have writtin' here! thanks!
By: jeff reed on March 14, 2012
I can't beleive it! Actually heard Close To The Edge by Yes played today. Wow! Not ever heard that before on the radio. Thank you and keep those Yes tracks coming.
By: John on March 20, 2012
this is by far the best station of rock music I have listen to for a very long time. Very few commercials, just great rock music & thank god no rap.
By: parke b. on March 30, 2012
I have been listening since I discovered you in January 2011. I told my band mates about you and they all have become loyal listeners too. Hell, you play most of my set lists! I just wish you had a regular website so we could get info on some of the rare and newer songs you play. I hear one every great once in a while and would love to cover it with my band, but can't ever find the name or who sings it!! Keep up the excellent work!!
By: Larry Furlong on April 6, 2012
THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST CLASSIC ROCK STATION IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA. DON'T CHANGE A THING - KEEP ON ROCKING & THANK GOD NO POP OR RAP
By: PARKE BONGIORNO on May 25, 2012
I live near Cleveland, but work alot in the Pittsburgh area. Imagine my amazement when i found KVE! I was floored by the variety of music, not to mention, the obscurity of some. I live in the "self-proclaimed" Home of Rock-n-Roll. But the radio stations there are really weak.If i gotta hear ACDC, ZZ TOP, Nirvana, G-n-R, Boston, or Pink Floyd, one more time, im gonna puke! Not that those bands dont Rock. But Play something obscure, Like KVE does!!! Dirty Deeds,Tush,Sweet Child,More that a feeling, and Us and them, are draining the life out of me!!!! That station is a long needed breath of fresh air!
By: Jon on June 19, 2012
I live in Parkersburg WV, and several of us guys come up to 7 springs on labor day weekend for the 24 hour mountain bike race they have that weekend. Since we have a 103.1 station here in parkersburg, the radio we brought with us was tuned to 103.1 already. When we first turned the radio on we heard this killer music that just went on and on with no commercials. It was awsome!!! I'm like everyone else, I used to listen to DVE up in the Pittsburgh area but not anymore. We are listening to kve everytime we come up there now. One note, could you PLEASE stream the station so I could listen down here in Pburg. That would be awsome also. Keep the rock coming, u guys rock!!
By: Harry on July 21, 2012
Radio, the way it is MEANT to be!! Reminds me of the old days of WYDD... glad you are around and hoping you get a stronger transmitter! :D
By: Elizabeth on July 23, 2012
KVE is the best (non-pay) rock station in the Pittsburgh area. It's wonderful to listen to a ststion that plays great music where talking and commercials are limited. If I wanted talk radio I would dial in a good AM station. Another thing that I really like about KVE is that they play tracks from albums that were not necessarily the hit song from the album, but nonetheless a great song. Remember the days when the entire album was excellent? It's great to hear a Montrose, Robin Trower, Yes, Traffic or Dan Folgleburg song on the radio during regular daytime hours. You bring back memeories on how Pittsburgh Rock and Roll radio used to be a long time ago. Keep up the great programming KVE and I'll keep turning others on to the station. Jeff S.

Gave up on DVE years ago....had given up on FM until WKVE hit the air. Outstanding radio!
By: Kevin on August 7, 2012
I am trying to find the song and artist name for a song played on Thursday, September 27, at 1:10 p.m. I didn't recognize it, but I loved it. A righteous groove. It followed an Allman Bros. song. Can anyone help?
By: Larry on September 29, 2012
I have trouble getting and keeping your signal. I love your station, increase your signal, please. Don't leave the airwaves. Your station is the best!
By: Janet Kayhart on October 9, 2012
Wow! A real music station! One that actually plays great music and tons of it. I look forward to your station becoming more popular but hopefully, not so popular that all the air time becomes commercial after commercial like DVE! Thanks for bringing music back to FM radio!
By: Jeff on October 30, 2012
You played "Everybody have a good time" What was the song just before that one? Thanks
By: Augie on November 15, 2012

By: john j. shirey on November 7, 2013
Great tunes! But need to know song with lyrics "some of your love" played on way home from Christmas shopping today! Never heard it before & great rocking song. What is it, listeners? Help!
By: Donna on December 21, 2013
This station rocks! Non stop classic rock and roll without the BS and not too many advertisements. Just like the competition, in the Pittsburgh market, used to be 25 or so years ago. Keep rockin on KVE!
By: Kirsten on April 28, 2014
Agree with almost all above posts. Son was home over the weekend had KVE on the stereo. He asked, "doesn't this station play commercials?". LOL. A true rock station with fairly good mix that easily rivals Mega Rock in Central Pa in my opinion. Dennis Elliot does a good job in the morning with the right balance of news, a quick witty quip and loads of music, while all other stations are full of group laughter at silly babble and no music. Keep up the great format!
By: Joe W. Apollo pa. on November 25, 2014
What happened to the online stream? Great station that comes i loud and clear in Pittsburgh. Blows DVE out of the water.
By: Jeff on February 27, 2015
Listen long enough and hear plenty of repetition. Boston and Tom Petty every hour. Sounds like DVE's little brother. Call letters sure are similar, with the same deep tracks and bad Yes edits. You won't hear any Peter Gabriel Genesis tracks or Roy Buchanan or Rare Bird or King Crimson here. This is no WYDD or old WZUM, not even close.
By: Brother Love on March 5, 2015
Amen Brother Love ! If you want radio that resembles WYDD or 1590 ZUM , Sirius Deep Tracks channel 27 is the answer. Don't waste your time with KVE !!
By: Bill Long on March 22, 2015
To Brother Love (which is a name that doesn't exactly fit given the content of your post) and Bill Long: Yes, Sirius Deep Tracks Channel 27 is amazing. However, this station is about as close as you can get to that (and by extension WYDD and old WZUM) with modern free radio in this area. So why not support this awesome station, instead of putting it down?
Also, some of your claims are untrue at best. You have to listen for at least a few MONTHS before you hear repetition. Even then, its not "Boston and Tom Petty every hour." More like you get some repeats here and there, which is good for a station like this as they don't call out the title and artists of the songs. Having some repeats is especially good for the more obscure songs, so you can listen to the lyrics a few times to understand what's being said, and then look them up to find the song.
And it certainly does not have the same deep tracks as DVE supposedly does. Don't know where you get that. Also don't know why you think they don't play Peter Gabriel-era Genesis; I've heard a couple songs from that era of the band on this station, as well as several solo Gabriel songs, Collins-era songs, and solo Collins songs. They play all of it, dude. Also, "bad Yes edits", really? You personally dislike Yes, so you use that as an excuse to hate the station? Whatever.
The only criticism that I can entertain of yours so far, is that I have never heard Rare Bird, Roy Buchanan, or King Crimson on the station (at least I'm pretty sure, sometimes I've tuned in at the end of the song and not recognized it but didn't hear enough of the lyrics to be able to search for it). However, I have heard just about everything else, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear one of them in the near future. Given that you obviously haven't listened to the station enough to know that they do indeed play Gabriel-era Genesis, however, I'm not sure if you really know what you're talking about in this regard either.
In addition to all of that, if there's any relation at all between their call-sign "KVE" and "DVE", its that they're making fun of modern DVE, not that they're emulating it. But there really is no relation between the two. The owner bought the call-sign from a group in North Carolina, and that's about all there is behind the usage of "KVE" as the call-sign. Sorry to burst your conspiracy theory bubble.
Anyways, as far as my thoughts on this station are concerned (if they weren't already pretty clear): I like it a lot. Stumbled upon it late last July when I was just searching through the FM channels for some different stuff. Have mostly had it on my radio ever since. There is some repetition, but its understandable given the reason I stated above, and I don't mind. Honestly the only problem I have with this station right now is that your online streaming feature no longer works; I know you guys have stated on your Facebook page that you were trying to fix it, but its been several months since then. Hopefully you can get it up and running again sometime in the near future. Otherwise, keep up the good work, and don't let misinformed and malicious opinions get you down.
P.S.: To john j shirey, I know its been a long time since your post and you've either already found it or already given up, but that song you were searching for is Time Out of Mind by Steely Dan. And to Donna, your song may have been Some of Your Love by the Beach Boys, or Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness) by Donovan. Not sure if either of those are even close to right, but that's about all I can turn up without more info.
P.S.S.: The commenter "Bryan" from late 2012 and May 2013 doesn't know what he's talking about. Enough said.

Great mix of songs without a half hour of useless commercials in between. Good choices of advertisers that are presented.
By: Deb L. on June 26, 2017
For a broadcast radio station, WKVE is very hard to beat. They play deep cut classic rock and minimize the classic rock burnout.
By: AJ Michaels on November 25, 2017
I listened to this station pretty much the whole time I lived in south west pa. Now I live in garrett county maryland, but if I'm in northern garrett county, sometimes the station comes in. I wish it got reception in southern garrett county because all of our stations here are the same old overplayed songs.

I have been a faithful listener for the last few years. Really love the station and music format that they play. I have discovered a whole new music experience with the songs that they play. I did not grow up listening to this type of music. I can honestly say that I fell in love with the majority of it. The station does a really good job presenting it with limited interruptions. It’s all about the music!Thank you! Keep up the good work!

By: Bob on July 1, 2022
1st comment of 2024! LOVE this station. Stumbled on it instead of WDVE. I really like all the real rock songs, not just the same few songs that 'DVE plays. This is my new station and I will be telling rock heads about it!
By: Leslie on June 26, 2024
I wish you had streaming and a playlist of songs that have been played through the day. There have been quite a few times I've heard something I really liked but am busy and unable to look it up at the time and when I finally get a chance to look the song up, I've forgotten which one it was! (Because I may hear a few songs and when it comes time to recall them to look them up, I've forgotten). I've even sent a message on the 'KVE Facebook page but haven't gotten anything in response back. :(
