I’m an animal rights advocate and dance enthusiast.
In a "mob" dance mentality, a group (to hip-hop bass beats) will dance and carry anti -factory farm signs for a few minutes at a restaurant exterior, then move on to the next eatery.
The fact is, that, although farm animals are portrayed as sun-drenched and living comfortably in grassy fields, the reality is sadly, the opposite. Animals are raised in "factories" and are treated as such. They exist in hard-floored cages placed directly over their own waste, and have so little room they can't even turn around. Calves are ripped away from their mothers after birth and placed in tiny crates. Mother pigs are so confined they can't even turn around to see their piglets. It gets worse, but you get the idea.
Protesting the cruel industry of factory farming, a group of (sometimes scantily clad) dancers with anti-animal cruelty signage "mob" dance to heavy hip-hop beats in front of local eateries including "Wendy's," "McDonald's," "Pizza Hut" and "Burger King." Whitney Maxson, the organizer of the protest, says she's trying to impact the ubiquity of meat-based eateries and hence, have an effect on factory farming and its role in animal cruelty and climate change.
(BTW, the Amazon isn't suddenly burning, but has been chopped down and burned for pasture for well over 20 years, contributing to greenhouse gasses, obviously, and destroying the lungs of the planet. Charlie Hamilton James explained the phenomenon in a recent National Geographic story, "As the Amazon burns, cattle ranchers are blamed. But it's complicated.")
I hope you will join or at least come and get some pictures!
Instagram@imafactoryfarmedpig will have updates on the shows as the days get nearer.
Thank you,
Whitney Maxson
