PETAL AND PACE DUATHLON
4TH ANNUAL EVENT
Mobile, AL: On Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 7:00 am, Little Flower Catholic School will be hosting their 4th Annual Petal and Pace Duathlon. The race starts at 7:00 am, at Little Flower School with a bike ride through the Bankhead Tunnel to the Battleship Park, where they will tag off or change shoes and run to Felix’s Restaurant and back to the Battleship. They will get back on their bikes and ride back to Little Flower School located at 2103 Government Blvd., again riding through the Bankhead Tunnel. Refreshments, door prizes and awards will be given out after the race.
“We typically have 175-200 race participants. We are hoping for even more this year”, explained the Duathlon Chair, Lyle Coleman, “ Although it is a race, beginners can still participate.”
The monies raised have always been used to support deserving students and programs at the school. The majority of our students come from low income families and may have difficulty supporting academic and athletic programs at the school, therefore the funds raised make a huge difference. Race profits go toward the school and Catholic Youth Organizations, “CYO” programs that the school participates in.
Little Flower School has been a pillar of the community since 1934, when Father Jimmy Byrnes opened the one-room building behind the church in which three Sisters of St. Joseph taught.
The spirit of education, first sparked by Fr. Jimmy Byrnes is continued by the current pastor, Fr. John Lynes, and the school and church communities. Quality education programs are offered in a Jesus-centered environment where all students - Little Flower parishioners, students from parishes, and non-Catholic students, can grow. The teachings of Christ continue to provide the basis for the curriculum and policies of the school, and permeates all that we do.
Anyone interested in participating can go to www.petalandpace15.eventbrite.com
“We also need volunteers the day of the event,” says Coleman, “volunteers will help at water stops, food booths, set up and take down,” please feel free to call 251-421-4014 for more information.
Registration fee is as low as $35.00, hurry to get your best rate.

Why WeTip?
The WeTip School Safety hotline has been designed to reduce risk and threats in schools. The WeTip hotline is a valuable tool for students and school staff members who know about a crime, but are afraid to tell anyone. When someone calls WeTip, no one asks them who they are or where they live. The WeTip operator asks some questions to find out about the crime and who committed it. The operator will give the caller a number so that they can call back if they find out more information. The WeTip school safety hotlines are answered by bilingual tip operators, 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year. Calls are taken on all crimes affecting schools and the communities surrounding schools.
