Just wondered what ever happened to the old AM station WSJR? I used to work there back in the 70's. Great place to live back then.

I worked at WSJR in Madawaska for a few years, beginning in 1965. We had two full time broadcasters and two local young men who worked part-time (Louis St. Amant and Fred Henderson). For a very brief time we had a DJ named Rick Phillips, who left Maine and began working on the ill-fated Pirate Radio Ship stations off the coast of London. The highlight of my time at WSJR was in early 1965 when I interviewed Dick Curless and was the first DJ in the nation to play 'Tombstone Every Mile'. Dick arrived at WSJR with the trunk of his car filled with 45 rpm copies of his song. He told me that he was going to start in Madawaska and drive all the way to Nashville, stopping off at radio stations along the way. He did it too! And by the time he got to Music City, Tombstone was Number 5 on the charts!
