Hello, Given the current social distancing guidelines, I believe we are missing a key ingredient in keeping our customers, employees, and loved ones safe. While we are trying to protect the health of those we care about with Masks, Gloves, and Sanitizers, items which Eastman Products carries. Little thought has gone into the cleaning and filtration of the air we breathe. Hospitals know the importance of air filtration and have elaborate whole complex systems that filter and sanitize the air. This call to action is to provide another layer of protection for those around us. Filtration is obviously not the all-in-one solution but certainly deserves attention and should be part of the overall sanitation program in your business. We are generally accustomed to changing our furnace air filters 2or 3 times a year with the cheapest filters we can find from our local DIY store. Obviously, price is a significant factor in the purchase of these filters and is dependent on the filtering media and its efficiency or MERV rating. For consumer use, MERV ratings range from around 5 for a simple fiberglass filter to 13 for High Efficiency Pleated filtration. Manufacturers generally claim filtering material in these ranges remove 80-98% of airborne particulate. Generally speaking, the higher the MERV rating the more expensive the filter is. A local Big Box store is selling a MERV 5 20X25X1 for about $5.00 ea while the same size with a MERV 12 rating is $25.00.
