Civility Month - October 2018
In Island County conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats have come together in an organization called Civility First. . .So We Can Work Together to try to reduce polarization and encourage civil discourse. We are concerned about our country and many churches in Island County are part of our effort.
During the month of October we are co-sponsoring Civility Month with Son-Isle Libraries.
Events
Sept. 29 “How to Communicate Across Social and Political Divides” workshop will be led by Sandi Peterson, a political conservative from Oak Harbor and Paul Courteau, a political moderate from Langley at the Coupeville Library 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Oct. 1 A moderated discussion with Rep. Norma Smith (R) and County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson (D) on “Civility and Citizenship”, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Library.
Oct. 2 “How to Communicate Across Social and Political Divides” workshop will be led by Sandi Peterson, a political conservative from Oak Harbor and Paul Courteau, a political moderate from Langley at the Camano Island Library, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 6 “How to Communicate Across Social and Political Divides” workshop will be led by Sandi Peterson, a political conservative from Oak Harbor and Paul Courteau, a political moderate from Langley at the South Whidbey Assembly of God Church in Langley, noon – 3:00 p.m. This event includes a potluck and is co-sponsored by the South Whidbey Assembly of God, Langley United Methodist Church, St. Hubert Catholic Church, Deer Lagoon Grange, Unity of Whidbey and the Whidbey Institute.

Oct. 11 - The Three Nice Mice join story 10:30 a.m. story hour at the Freeland Library.
Oct. 18 - The Three Nice Mice join 9:30 and10:00 a.m. story hours at Coupeville Library.
Oct. 27 - A reception honoring entrants of the “Capturing a Moment of Civility in Your Community” art and photography contest will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Coupeville Library. The exhibit will be judged by the Pacific Northwest Art School, Coupeville Mayor, Molly Hughes will award prizes, there will be harp music by Claudia Walker and light refreshments will be served. Following the reception, the exhibit will travel to various venues in Island County.
