Good afternoon,
My name is Britney Olsen and I am a Site Coordinator with the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Grant. This is a federal grant that provides vocational and educational trainings and opportunities for youth 16-21. Currently I oversee 4 programs and work closely with community partners. In a nutshell I work with the UAA Dental Assisting department in a 12-week Dental program, a 12-week Dog therapy training program, a barista program and currently am developing a Culinary Skills Program. This grant has the means available to help take a youth’s interest and help see what is available in the community to help them gain skills in that area.
I am contacting you because I have a number of youth interested in the music industry (in all areas from production to singing) who are interested in pursuing a career in that field. I was wondering if KASH is interested in having a youth come to the facility for either work experience or a job shadowing opportunity for up to 100 hours. This work could be anything that you need assistance with. The youth would be paid through the WIA program and all liabilities would be on the grant (which would be clearly stated on the signed worksite agreement). So essentially you would be receiving free labor and allowing a youth to experience the industry (from the boring small tasks to whatever is available!)
If this is something that KASH would be interested in I would really appreciate to take up a few minutes of your time and discuss it. I can stop by and bring some of the materials to give you a good idea of more what the program is about.
I am hopeful you will take this great opportunity.
Thanks so much for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you!
Britney Olsen
