(October 18, 2017) - Members of Navy Band Great Lakes will be performing a free public concert in Madison, Wisconsin, as part of the Wisconsin State Music Conference as well as an encore performance with the students of James Madison Memorial High School. The following concert dates and venues are as follows: October 24 at 7:30 p.m. - James Madison Memorial High School, 201 South Gammon Road, Madison, Wisconsin, 53717 October 25 at 7:00 p.m. - Wisconsin State Music Conference at the Madison Ballroom, Monona Terrace Convention Center; One John Nolen Drive, Madison, Wisconsin, 53703 Dubbed "America's Band" by President Woodrow Wilson, Navy Band Great Lakes looks forward to seeing everyone at these upcoming public performances to help celebrate the Navy. No tickets are required for these free concerts. "Pride in Service" has been the theme for Navy Band Great Lakes for more than 100 years. From 1911, when the first bugler reported for duty, to bandmaster John Philip Sousa in 1917, to today's bandmaster, Navy Lt. Geordie Kelly, the music of Navy Band Great Lakes represents the pride and professionalism that is synonymous with the United States Navy. Homeported at Great Lakes (Illinois) Naval Station, Navy Band Great Lakes performs ceremonies to honor recruits, Sailors, and their families. Also, as the Navy's "Ambassadors to the Midwest," Navy Band Great Lakes performs for millions of spectators annually. They provide musical support for communities of all sizes as well as supporting Navy recruiting in an 11 state area of responsibility stretching from Michigan to North Dakota, including Wisconsin.
